A member of the famous Canning clan from Portumna has been appointed manager of former Roscommon and Connacht club football champions Padraig Pearses.
Frank Canning, who is a brother of Ollie and Joe, takes over from Pat Flanagan who stepped down after leading the south Roscommon outfit to unprecedented success, winning two county SFC titles in 2019 and 2021 as well an historic Connacht club crown last year. The former Offaly, Westmeath and Sligo manager has since taken charge of Kildare club Sarsfields.
Canning managed Portumna to the last of their four All-Ireland club SHC titles in 2014 and has a son, Sean, playing football and hurling with Pearses. His backroom team includes recently-retired Laois football star Ross Munnelly.
