Limerick secured their first win of this year’s Allianz Hurling League campaign by handing Clare a 1-27 to 2-18 defeat at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Played before a crowd of 15,521 at the Limerick venue, the All-Ireland champions were led on the scoring charts by ‘Man of the Match’ Micheál Houlihan who registered a dozen points while sub Donnacha O’Dalaigh finished a sweet team move to the Banner men’s net with five minutes to go in normal time.

Having lost out late to Cork on opening weekend, John Kiely’s men raced out of the traps in this one to lead 0-7 to 0-2 after eight minutes and, despite Ian Galvin’s goal, they’d take in a 0-16 to 1-7 lead at the break.

The Treaty men found their rhythm again after the restart to run the lead up to 13 points and while top-scorer Aidan McCarthy (0-13) looked to try and keep the visitors in with an outside chance, this goal from O’Dalaigh (see below) killed off the contest before David Reidy grabbed a consolation major towards the end.
