Fans were evacuated from Chadwicks Wexford Park ahead of this evening’s Allianz Hurling League clash between Wexford and Galway after a small fire broke out in the main stand.
The Division 1 Group A game was delayed by 15 minutes as fans were left waiting outside the stadium until it was deemed safe to re-enter.
Fire trucks arrived at the ground to deal with the situation and Gavin O’Donovan, who is CEO of Wexford GAA, told RTE Sport that there had been “no panic” during the incident.
"There was only a small bit of smoke and the air handling vent is damaged but there was no damage to the room that it was in. Nobody was hurt or injured as a result," said O'Donovan.
The match commenced at 5.15pm this evening.
We have a slight safety concern at Chadwicks Wexford Park and are awaiting advice from Fire Officer. Mains power is also out. We will have further updates as soon as available.
