Leitrim commenced their promotion bid from Division 4 in perfect fashion this afternoon by trouncing Waterford by 3-18 to 0-11 in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The Deise men had been the better side during the first-half, with Brian Lynch’s points helping them to lead by three points shortly after the half-hour mark.
However, after trimming the difference down one come half-time, Andy Moran’s men fired in goals via Jack Heslin and Tom Prior to firmly take control and another major from Keith Beirne at the death would complete the 16-point rout.
In Markievicz Park, a goal in each half proved key for Laois as they handed Sligo a 2-11 to 0-11 defeat in Round 1.
Killeshin’s Eoin Lowery slammed in the O’Moore men’s first goal from close range on 19 minutes to send them towards a 1-8 to 0-6 interval lead.
Sean Carrabine helped Sligo close the margin down to three points, but Laois would land another hammer blow that saw Evan O’Carroll put sub Lee Walker through for then net and all but wrap up the points with eight minutes remaining.
