Tyrone will face either Derry or Down in this year’s McKenna Cup final after seeing off Cavan on a 0-15 to 0-10 score-line at Kingspan Breffni this evening.

Ace attackers Darragh Canavan and Cathal McShane were most prominent for the Red Hands whom overcame a shaky start to kick seven points answered and lead by three at the half.

Gerry Smith’s point helped Cavan towards a 0-4 to 0-1 lead but Canavan and McShane struck a brace of points each and, from there, the visitors went on to take in a 0-8 to 0-5 advantage at the break.

Breffni boss Mickey Graham made four changes to his side at half-time and they’d get back within one, but Tyrone with Canavan (2) to the fore again and Liam Nugent, Niall Sludden and Mattie Donnelly all sailing over to help seal the win.

It keeps the Red Hands on course for a ninth triumph in this competition since 2012, with Down and Derry squaring off in the other semi-final tomorrow (Sunday) at 1.30pm in Newry.
