Galway got off to a flying start against Leitrim last night to move into the semi-finals of the Connacht FBD League against Mayo next weekend.

It finished 3-21 to 1-13 in favour of the Tribesmen at the Connacht Air Dome in Bekan, where full-forward Rob Finnerty stood out for the winners with a 2-7 tally.

Finnerty’s first goal came after eight minutes for Padraic Joyce’s side and another from Ian Burke late in the first-half ushered them towards a commanding 2-12 to 0-5 half-time lead.

Barry McNulty grabbed a sorely needed goal for Leitrim five minutes into the restart, but that was as good as it got for Andy Moran’s men as Galway kept the scoreboard ticking over with points before Finnerty converted a penalty with less than 10 minutes to go.

Next Saturday is now set to see Joyce’s charges taking on arch rivals Mayo at the same venue (7pm), with Sligo facing Roscommon in the competition’s other semi-final the previous evening (7pm).
