Jonny Cooper has announced his retirement from intercounty football after a career which saw him win every honour with Dublin.

Cooper made his championship debut in 2012 and had to wait until 2013 to cement a place in Jim Gavin’s side that claimed the Sam Maguire trophy.

There was no joy in 2014 but Dublin went on to win six consecutive All-Ireland titles with Cooper at the heart of an untouchable side.

All Stars were won in 2016 and 2018 along with five Allianz FL titles, while Cooper claimed a Leinster SFC in every year he was involved with Dublin, lifting the Delaney Cup as captain in 2021.

The Na Fianna clubman also captained his county to an All-Ireland U21FC in 2010.

"Going to Hill 16 from hip height with my mother had me completely hooked," said Cooper in a statement. "I have had the immense honour and privilege to play on the Dublin senior football team for the past 11 years.

"To the loyal and passionate Dublin supporters. Many times electricity ran through my veins - I have never felt more alive than in front of you. I appreciate this deep connection; your support on the good days and the not so good days is unrivalled."
