Castletown's Robbie Brooks celebrates a goal for Wexford.

Castletown were crowned Wexford senior football champions for the 12th time this afternoon when producing a stunning performance to dethrone a fancied Shelmaliers side at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

Managed by two-time All-Ireland winning Meath ladies coach Paul Garrigan, Castletown overcame the absence of suspended county forward Ben Brosnan to win 0-13 to 0-9.

Shels', who lined out with seven-time Dublin All-Ireland winner Eoghan O’Gara at full-forward, enjoyed the better start of the two teams, as points from the Donohoe brothers, Simon and Jody, and Tony Smith gave them a 0-5 to 0-1 cushion after 22 minutes.

However, Garrigan's charges remarkably turned thing around to lead at half-time, 0-7 to 0-5.

When the action resumed, Castletown stayed in the ascendancy, with Robbie Brooks and Jack Higgins pointing the way for the men in maroon and white, as the holders struggled to regain the momentum.

Shels' were reduced to 14-men in injury-time when substitute Dan Campbell received a red card.
