Naomh Conaill are Donegal senior football champions for the sixth time after edging out St Eunan’s on a 1-9 to 2-5 scoreline in Ballybofey.
Ciaran Thompson hit four second-half points to help the Glenties club over the line and dethrone their Letterkenny counterparts in a final which was postponed last weekend due to the Creeslough tragedy, with players and coaches wearing black armbands and a minute’s silence observed before throw-in as a mark of respect to those that lost their lives.
Eoin McGeehin’s goal 13 minutes in helped St Eunan’s to lead by at the break, 1-3 to 0-4, but they’d lose Shane O’Donnell to a straight red card in the closing stages of the half.
Playing in their sixth consecutive SFC final, Naomh Conaill soon closed the gap and pulled clear with Thompson’s point early in the restart being backed up by a Charles McGuinness goal on 42 minutes.
Sean McVeigh and Brendan McDyer traded points before the holders pulled the game level in the 50th minute with a close range Kevin Kealy goal.
Thompson pushed the 2020 champions back in front and was cancelled out by Conor Morrison before the former landed a 58th minute free that ensured the Dr Maguire Cup was headed back to the Glenties.
