Galway and Kerry have each submitted a request to Leinster Council seeking inclusion in next year’s provincial minor hurling championship.

Galway currently play senior and U20 in Leinster, but their success in the minor grade - they won a four-in-a-row of All-Ireland titles between 2017 and ’20 – has mitigated against their inclusion. Despite this, Galway feel they’re at a disadvantage under the current system which saw them play just three games this year, including two in a new All-Ireland round-robin series that included Munster runners-up Clare and Leinster runners-up Laois.

It's believed the Tribesmen have also sought inclusion in the Munster MHC which Kerry currently compete in. However, the Kingdom want to move to Leinster where they would be guaranteed more games against teams of a similar standard.

Kerry are also hoping to gain entry to the Leinster U20HC for the same reason. The requests will be discussed at the next Leinster Council meeting, but the GAA’s Development Competition Control Committee will ultimately rule on the matter.
