Shinrone are Offaly senior hurling champions for the first time in their history after overcoming Kilcormac-Killoughey on a 0-26 to 2-13 score-line in Tullamore.

In their second ever final appearance (the first was in 1960), the Tipperary border club thoroughly delivered the goods at O’Connor Park and were led by their towering full-forward Ciaran Cleary in the first-half.

His brother Declan’s point on 22 minutes levelled the sides at 0-6 each and, from there, Shinrone began to pull away as they went on to lead at half-time by 0-10 to 0-8.

The victors would run up an eight-point lead before Ger Healion pulled back a 52nd minute goal but they’d hit three more points to ensure the inaugural success, with Cillian Kiely’s strike on the hour proving consolation for Kilcormac-Killoughey at the finish.
