Castletown-Geoghegan are Westmeath senior hurling champions for the first time in five years after defeating Clonkill by 0-22 to 1-14 in Mullingar today.
County attacker Niall O’Brien led the way for the victors with 0-8 over the hour while Mick Heeney’s hat-trick of points was key midway through the first-half as they eventual went in at the break leading 0-14 to 0-8.
Full-forward David O’Reilly came to the fore in the second-half for Castletown-Geoghegan, sailing over three points as his side stayed in control.
Veteran Brendan Murtagh came off the bench to net an injury-time goal from a 30-metre free but it was too late as their opponents’ name was already on the trophy, prevailing in this one after having lost out in the previous three county finals.
TweetCongratulations to Castletown-Geoghegan who have been crowned 2022 Senior A Hurling champions after a 0-22 to 1-14 win over Clonkill at TEG Cusack Park.
