Clonguish Gaels claimed their second Longford senior hurling championship title in four years, despite playing most of the second-half of today's final against holders Longford Slashers at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park with 14 men.
The winners had experienced defender Gerry Moore sent-off for a second yellow card offence on 38 minutes, but managed to hold off a strong fightback from Slashers to win by two in the end (1-15 to 1-13). The Gaels laid the foundations in the first-half and led 1-9 to 0-3 at the break, with Stephen Gregg netting their goal.
Slashers, to their credit, didn't give up their crown easily, but they left themselves with too much to do as a late David Buckley major only proved consolation.
