Offaly's search for a new senior hurling manager has ended with the appointment of Johnny Kelly to the role.
The Portumna native served as a coach under Michael Fennelly for the past three seasons and now assumes the hotseat after recent speculation that Tipperary's Liam Sheedy and Eamon O'Shea were set to take charge proved wide off the mark. Kelly will be assisted by coach Martin Maher, brother of former Tipperary star Brendan who worked alongside him during Borris-Ileigh's run to the 2020 All-Ireland club final, and Coolderry's Barry Teehan, who is continuing as a selector.
Former Galway All-Ireland winning goalkeeper Colm Callanan will also be part of the backroom team once again, having served as goalkeeping coach last season.
Kelly boasts an impressive CV at club level, having managed Portumna to All-Ireland glory in 2009, Coolderry to Offaly SHC success in 2015 and Borris-Ileigh to Tipperary and Munster SHC honours in 2019. He is a former Galway U21 boss who is currently in charge of Nenagh Éire Óg.
