Pat Flanagan has declared his interest in the vacant Roscommon senior football manager's post.

The Clara man revealed yesterday that Padraig Pearses - who he guided to Connacht club SFC glory last year - have nominated him to succeed Anthony Cunningham. Speaking to Shannonside FM after Pearses' 4-10 to 0-8 loss to St Brigid's in the Roscommon SFC at Ballyforan, Flanagan also rubbished speculation linking him with the Longford job, which Billy O'Loughlin vacated after just one season in charge.

"It just baffles me at times to see where these stories come from. I've had absolutely no contact with Longford whatsoever," the former Westmeath, Offaly and Sligo manager said.

"As far as the Roscommon situation is concerned, they know my CV. If they want a call, they know where I am.

"They're a very proud county and I'd imagine that whoever's going to get that job in the near future will get it internally. It won't be a media circus."

There is already speculation that Flanagan is putting together a backroom team after the other leading contender for the post, Stephen Rochford, was included on Kevin McStay's proposed ticket for the Mayo job. The identity of the new Mayo manager will be known tonight.
