Cruciate woe for Antrim star McCann

Antrim hurling star Conor McCann is set to miss the rest of the season for his club after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

McCann played an integral part in Antrim’s remarkable comeback win over Kerry in the Joe McDonagh Cup final in June, promoting the Saffrons back to the Liam McCarthy Cup for 2023.

The dual star was also key when his native Creggan Kickhams lifted the Antrim senior football championship title last year.

McCann sustained the dreaded injury in the closing 10 minutes of Creegan’s drawn SFC opener against Lámh Dhearg – a game which saw Ruairi McCann’s late ‘45’ salvaging a 1-10 to 0-13 draw for the holders.

BelfastLive.co.uk reports that a scan has since confirmed the extent of the injury for McCann, leaving him ruled out of the rest of his club’s football and hurling championship campaign while the duration for recovery also looks set to see him missing Antrim’s Allianz League and Leinster SHC games next season.
