Kieran McGeeney will remain in charge of the Armagh senior football team in 2023.

Armagh county board voted unanimously last night to retain the services of the 2002 All-Ireland SFC winning captain for a ninth season. Initially appointed in 2015 as successor to Paul Grimley, McGeeney becomes the second longest-serving inter-county football manager after Clare's Colm Collins.

The Orchard County made great strides under McGeeney this year, finishing third in Division 1 of the Allianz League before going on to reach the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals where they lost to Galway on penalties.

Earlier, Armagh were knocked out of the Ulster SFC by Donegal, but avenged that defeat in the All-Ireland qualifiers.
