Speculation is rife that Davy Fitzgerald is on the verge of taking charge of the Waterford senior hurlers for a second time.

Fitzgerald led the Deise to an ill-fated All-Ireland SHC final appearance against Kilkenny in 2008 and is believed to be in the frame to replace Liam Cahill, who was recently appointed manager of his native Tipperary.

The former Clare All-Ireland winning manager and goalkeeper stepped down as Cork camogie coach immediately after last Sunday's All-Ireland final defeat to Kilkenny, and that has only added to rumours that he is set for a return to the Waterford hotseat, especially in light of the news that former captain Stephen Molumphy is staying with Kerry for another season.
