St Mullin's captured the Carlow SHC title for the 28th time this afternoon when they ran out convincing 2-22 to 0-11 winners over Bagenalstown Gaels at Netwatch Cullen Park.

The Gaels - who stunned holders Mount Leinster Rangers in the semi-final - made an excellent start to proceedings with a Martin McDonald point inside 30 seconds of the throw-in and the same player followed up with another shortly after.

However, this was the only time that Gavin Nolan's charges would lead as St Mullin's upped the ante in the third-quarter and were 1-8 to 0-5 up when Jason O’Neill latched onto a Philip Connors pass and buried to the net on 17 minutes.

Further scores by O'Neill and James Doyle eased St Mullin's into a 1-12 to 0-8 lead at half-time and they introduced returning Carlow star Marty Kavanagh to the fray after the break, while man-of-the-match O'Neill added to the Gaels' misery with a second goal.
