Nick Weir has stepped down from his role as Meath senior hurling manager.

The Westmeath man was in charge of the Royals for three campaigns having been appointed in October 2019.

Meath endured a difficult 2022 season which resulted in relegation to the Christy Ring Cup after failing to win a game in the championship.

The Meath county board have thanked Weir and his management team - including Seoirse Bulfin, David Reilly and Steven Clynch - for all their services.

"Meath GAA wishes to announce that Nick Weir has informed the County Committee that he is standing down from his role as our senior hurling team manager," a statement on meathgaa.ie reads.

"All involved in the Meath Gaelic games community thank Nick and all his backroom team for their tireless efforts and dedication over the last two years.

"The Meath Hurling Promotion and Development Committee wish Nick and his team every success in his future endeavours.

"Meath GAA we will start the process of seeking a new senior hurling team management.

"Go raibh maith agaibh."
