Shane McEntee has defended his father Andy's time as Meath football manager and has also responded to claims that the county board paid for his flights home from a recent tour or duty with the Defence Forces in Mali.
The Meath captain took to Twitter to clarify that he had paid for the flights himself, while also condemning the online abuse and hate mail his father had received before bringing the curtain down on his six-year reign as Royal County boss last night.
The tweet which claimed that the Meath county board had paid for McEntee's flights has since been deleted.
“Flights cost €1k and I paid for them. I then paid another €500 to change it and make an extra training,” McEntee tweeted.
“Online abuse, letters to the house. You can put yourself forward for these roles or you can tweet about it, one takes a bit more conviction.”
Meath GAA has already begun the process of finding a new football manager, with Royal County legend Colm O'Rourke and former Fermanagh and Monaghan boss Malachy O'Rourke among the early favourites.
