New York football captain Jamie Boyle is hoping his side's long wait for a championship win will end this weekend.
After running Sligo to four points in last month's Connacht SFC first round clash at Gaelic Park, New York won't be travelling without hope to Tullamore for this Saturday's Tailteann Cup quarter-final against Offaly.
The grandson of emigrants from Donegal and a former American football kicker, Boyle says Johnny McGeeney's side have taken a certain amount of inspiration from what fellow-exiles London achieved this year.
“We saw it a little bit from our point of view with London this year in the League. They started winning. I think they won the first three games," he told gaa.ie.
“I don’t know if the narrative is the same with New York and London over there but at least to us, it felt like it was us and them, the outsiders and we’re almost… it was nice to see them winning.
“Teams have to respect them now when they come in. That’s what we’re hoping to do."
