Westmeath may appeal the straight red card that was issued to their captain Kevin Maguire in last Sunday's Tailteann Cup first round victory over Laois.
The tight-marking Caulry defender was sent off in the 20th minute of the Portlaoise clash and faces the prospect of missing this Sunday's quarter-final against Carlow in Netwatch Cullen Park through suspension.
"He's been a great captain for us," Westmeath manager Jack Cooney said.
"He's a great leader on and off the pitch and he'll be disappointed if he's not playing the next day, so we'll be doing our best for him."
