Kerry were in ruthless form in Tralee this afternoon as they demolished Limerick with a 1-28 to 0-8 win to take their 83rd Munster senior football championship title.
Killian Spillane struck the game’s only goal in the 48th minute but it wasn’t even required as Jack O’Connor’s men already had another provincial crown safely in the bag for their county by that stage.
Minus the services of injured talisman David Clifford, the Kingdom were still able to cruise to victory in this one as their Treaty counterparts had no answer to their razor-sharp attack in the sunshine at Fitzgerald Stadium.
A brace of points from Spillane – starting in place of his brother Adrian from the win over Cork last time – along with the sound free-taking of Sean O’Shea helped the holders to lead by 0-12 to 0-3 at half-time.
Paul Geaney, Tom O’Sullivan and Stephen O’Brien hit points early in the restart as Kerry picked up where they left off and they’d go on to stretch their lead to 15.
Ian Corbett’s point stopped to rot only momentarily for the visitors as this neat finish to the net from Spillane, who found himself in acres of space unmarked, ended the game as a contest:
