Paddy McBrearty says Donegal were keen to make amends for their 2020 Ulster SFC final defeat when they met Cavan in Clones last Sunday.

The Tir Chonaill men advanced to a 10th provincial decider in 12 season after defeating Mickey Graham’s side in a keenly contested semi-final clash at St Tiernach’s Park, where it finished 2-16 to 0-16.

Speaking to BelfastLive.ie following the win, McBrearty says the hurt of 2020 drove them on to get over the line against the Breffni men.

“No doubt - that was a tough, tough evening,” he reflected. “We were going for three-in-a-row, but Cavan deserved to beat us that day. We didn’t play to our potential.

“So, we wanted to put that right and this was our first time in Clones since 2019, so it was good to get back here as well.

“To win any Ulster Championship game you are looking at that 20-point mark. We hit it.

“I don’t think we hit it two weeks ago against Armagh, but you are going to have to hit it against whoever comes out of Derry and Monaghan.”
