Antrim hit six of the last seven points to come from behind at Corrigan Park and hand Carlow a 2-22 to 1-22 defeat in the third round of the Joe McDonagh Cup this afternoon.
Conal Cunning lead the way for the Saffrons with 1-11 while Neil McManus netted the hosts’ other goal in the first-half to help them lead by 2-8 to 1-10 at the interval.
Marty Kavanagh steered over 0-5 for Carlow during the opening period and Chris Nolan flicked in their goal on 24 minutes to help ensure the margin was the minimum at half-time.
Nolan and Kavanagh raised white flags to put the visitors in front early in the restart and, despite Seaan Elliot sending over a point at the other end, it was the Barrowsiders that kept ahead thanks to the scores of Kevin McDonald and John Michael Nolan.
Antrim took back the lead by the 51st minute but their Leinster counterparts responded well again as Marty Kavanagh raised his personally tally to 0-10 and Nolan and Richie Coady had them two to the good with 10 minutes to go.
Joe Maskey grabbed a sorely needed point for the Glensmen and, from there, the scores flowed to the finish for the would-be winners and it was two injury-time frees from Cunning that cemented the victory, marking Antrim’s third on the bounce having already defeated Offaly and Down in the first two rounds.
In Tralee, Kerry crushed Meath with a 6-25 to 0-13 victory to make it back-to-back wins in the Joe McDonagh Cup.
Shane Conway (2) and Colin Walsh netted the early goals for the hosts that saw them go on to take a 3-10 to 0-7 lead at the half.
Maurice O’Connor fired two goals in as many minutes to pile on the misery for the Royals before Niall Mulcahy hit the sixth major on 69 minutes to round off the 30-point win for Kerry.
