Adam Kirwan’s early goal helped Laois past Kildare in this afternoon’s Leinster U20 hurling championship second round clash in Newbridge.

It finished 1-21 to 0-16 in favour of the visitors at St Conleth’s Park, where Kirwan’s strike found the net after just three minutes to put his team in the driving seat.

Kirwan, Dan Delaney and Cillian Dunne kept the scores coming for the O’Moore lads as they went on to lead at half-time by 1-10 to 0-7.

Kildare did make a positive start to the second-half that saw points via Fionn Maher help reduce their deficit down to two.

Laois hit a purple patch however and it saw them outscoring the hosts by 0-6 to 0-1, which would be enough to see out the victory.

Laois now play Wexford in the quarter-finals on April 19th, with Kilkenny facing Offaly in the other last eight clash and Dublin awaiting at the semi-final stage.
