For the first time ever, there will be no Leinster team in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League next year.
While the competition has had different formats over the years, there has always been at least one Leinster county in the top flight. However, that proud record went when Dublin and Kildare were both relegated on a dramatic final day of the round-robin series yesterday.
Dublin and Kildare will now join Meath and newly-promoted Louth in Division 2 next season. Offaly's relegation from Division 2 sees them join neighbours Westmeath and Longford in Division 3, while Laois and Wicklow have slipped back to Division 4 where they will have Wexford and Carlow for company in 2023.
Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Louth are the only counties from the eastern province guaranteed a place in this year's All-Ireland SFC, with the others bound for the inaugural Tailteann Cup unless they can produce some out-of-the-ordinary results to reach the Leinster final.
