Wexford picked up their fourth straight win the Allianz Hurling League this afternoon by overcoming Offaly on a 1-22 to 2-12 score-line at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

Rory O’Connor’s terrific goal just before half-time helped Darragh Egan’s men to extend their winning streak while condemning the visitors to a fourth loss in Division 1 Group A.

Offaly had made the better start and registered the game’s first goal 15 minutes in through Luke O’Connor to lead by two.

The Slaneysiders drew level before Adrian Cleary and Joey Keenaghan hit fine scores for the Faithful men prior to their marksman O’Connor making it 1-6 to 0-6 with 24 minutes on the clock.

Egan’s charges would finish out the half strong however, with Rory O’Connor racing through from the sideline to hammer in their goal and the same player would convert a 60-metre free to leave it at 1-8 to 1-7 in the Model men’s favour at the half.

Two Luke O’Connor frees steered Offaly back in front and he’d have his second goal of the afternoon via the penalty spot to wipe out three of the hosts’ points.

Rory O’Connor, Conall Flood and Conor Devitt got Wexford motoring again though with scores and they would see out the win with Kevin Foley adding a late brace of points ahead of O’Connor (free) and Corey Byrne Dunbar rounding off the seven-point win and sealing a league semi-final berth.
