Ballyhale Shamrocks GAA has been rocked by the sudden death of clubman Paul Shefflin.

A younger brother of former Kilkenny star and current Galway manager Henry Shefflin, it is understood that the married father-of-four died suddenly while out running yesterday afternoon.

He was 41 years old.

Mr Shefflin was a decorated hurler and captained the Kilkenny minor team in 1998.

It’s expected that this evening's Allianz Hurling League clash between Cork and Galway at Pairc Ui Chaoimh will go ahead but Henry Shefflin will not attend the game.

A minute’s silence will be observed prior to GAA matches this weekend.

Ballyhale Shamrocks posted the following on social media today:

“Shamrocks GAA Club are shocked and saddened by the sudden death of club member and former player Paul Shefflin. Paul was an unbelievable player and won many County championships and Club All Irelands wearing the Jersey he loved. Paul was also a former Senior Club Treasurer and was currently involved in coaching underage teams and was actively involved in the Juvenile section of the club. Our condolences to his loving wife Aoife, his four children, his parents Henry & Mai, his brothers and sisters and the extended Shefflin and Mc Cathy families. May Paul RIP.”
