All-Ireland champions Tyone registered their first win of the Allianz Football League Division 1 campaign at the third attempt.
After suffering a demoralising defeat to neighbours Armagh, the Red Hands got two points on the board courtesy of a hard-earned 2-7 to 0-12 victory over Kildare in poor conditions at O'Neill's Healy Park this afternoon.
The hosts were without Michael McKernan, Padraig Hampsey, Peter Harte and Kieran McGeary after the quartet lost their appeal against the red cards they received following a late brawl the last day, while two-time All-Star Mattie Donnelly was also missing in action.
Kildare, who have one point after their opening day draw with Kerry, will welcome Dublin to Newbridge in seven days' time for an early relegation battle.
Glen Ryan's side had wind assistance in the opening half and two points each from Johnstownbridge duo Paul Cribbin and Daniel Flynn help them towards a 0-8 to 0-4 interval lead.
But, as the second-half unfolded, Tyrone began to exert a greater influence on proceedings, with Conn Kilpatrick and Darren McCurry punching holes in the visitors' rearguard for crucial goals in the 37th and 58th minutes, respectively.
Kildare could have snatched victory or a draw at the death, but Flynn blasted a glorious goal chance over the bar and that left it a one-point game before goalkeeper Mark Donnellan's free sailed wide.
