Galway recorded their second Allianz Hurling League win in six days tonight as they saw off Limerick by 0-27 to 1-18 at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Henry Shefflin’s men produced the second-half goods to take the two points while their opponents were forced to play the closing half hour with 14 men after Gearoid Hegarty was red carded after striking an opponent with his hurl.

Aaron Gillane’s brilliantly taken goal gave the All-Ireland champions the edge during the first-half and they’d go in leading at interval by 1-9 to 0-10.

Limerick boss John Kiely introduced Tom Morrissey for the start of the second-half but his side would soon be down a man. Hegarty saw red for a striking offence on Padraig Mannion – an incident which saw a melee break out on the sidelines and the 2020 Hurler of the Year receiving his marching orders from Fergal Horgan once the dust settled.

Gillane and Cathal Mannion exchanged points afterwards but it didn’t take long for the visitors to get out in front, with Fintan Burke, Ronan Glennon, Conor Cooney (free) and Tom Monaghan all shooting over.

Gillane levelled (1-12 to 0-15) with his seventh point of the night ahead of Glennon grabbing his second at the other end.

The hosts got out in front again but would eventually run out of steam as Galway went on to dominate the closing 10 minutes, with seven unanswered points from Conor Cooney (3, 2 frees), Fintan Burke, Joseph Cooney (2) and Johnny Coen to see out victory.
