History was created at Croke Park this evening when Naas became the first team from Kildare to win the All-Ireland club intermediate hurling championship crown after ousting Kilmoyley by 0-16 to 1-11 in difficult conditions.
A run of six unanswered points into the breeze from Shane Ryan (2), Simon Lacy (2), Jack Sheridan and Rian Boran at the end of the first-half had Tom Mullally's side ahead by 0-11 to 0-7 at the break.
They led by six points during the early stages of the second-half, however, after, Kilmoyley, managed by former Cork and Wexford supremo John Meyler, came on strong in the remaining 20 minutes, Naas were left clinging on.
The Kerry kingpins whittled the lead down to a single point with 10 minutes of normal-time remaining, spurred on by substitute Daire Nolan's 51st minute goal before Daniel Collins missed a couple of chances to put them level.
With six minutes of injury-time, Kilmoyley threw everything at the Kildare champions in desperate search of a goal after James Burke made it a two-point game but came up short in an absorbing battle at headquarters.
