St Thomas’ are Galway senior hurling champions for the fourth year running after holding off Clarinbridge at Pearse Stadium this afternoon.

Conor Cooney (0-11) led the charge for the holders in a 0-20 to 0-17 victory to help secure the club’s sixth Tom Callanan Cup success in a decade.

The Galway star struck six first-half points to steer the victors into a 0-10 to 0-9 lead at the break in Salthill, where Evan Niland helped pull a three-point deficit back to one for Clarinbridge.

Oisin Flannery and Gavin Lee traded points early in the restart, but it was St Thomas that opened up a four-point gap by the closing 10 minutes which would be enough to retain their crown.
