St Eunan's captain Conor O'Grady proudly raises the Donegal SHC trophy

St Eunan’s captured their first Donegal senior hurling title since 1972 today after overcoming holders Setanta by 2-19 to 0-14 at O’Donnell Park.

Russell Forde and Kevin Kealy struck the all-important goals as the Letterkenny men denied their opponents a three-in-a-row success, avenging their last two final defeats in the process.

Forde’s goal nine minute in had St Eunan’s 1-3 to 0-0 in front before Setanta found a bit of form that had the score-line reading 1-6 to 0-5 come the break.

Declan Coulter’s early second-half frees had the deficit cut to two but a brilliant move finished to the net at the other end by Kealy had St Eunan’s with one hand on the cup.

Like champions, Setanta fought bravely to the end but finished one short in the end as their opponents end the club’s 49-year wait for triumph in this competition.
