Two injury-time points saw Thurles Sarsfields overcome holders Kiladangan this afternoon to move into a first Tipperary senior hurling championship final in four years.
It finished 1-19 to 2-14 at Semple Stadium, where the points of Aidan McCormack and Paddy Creedon were the difference for the 36-time champions late on.
Goals from Bryan McLoughney and Billy Seymour where what had the defending champions in the driving-seat at half-time, leading by 2-8 to 0-10, but Sarsfields made the perfect start to the second-half and were also more efficient at the back with Paudie Maher to the fore.
Conor Stakelum’s well taken goal a minute into the restart was a huge lift to the winners here and the frees of McCormack (2) and a point from Creedon had them in front (1-13 to 2-9) come the 37th minute.
Paul Flynn levelled and Joe Gallagher raised a white flag to edge Kiladangan back in front and it went tit-for-tat with McLoughney and Flynn trading points on the hour mark which had the game level in the added minutes.
It was there that McCormack and Creedon came up trumps for Sarsfields whom now face the winners of tomorrow’s clash at Thurles between Borris-Ileigh and Loughmore-Castleiney (2pm) for the right to claim the Dan Breen Cup.
