Holders St Loman's, Mullingar were given a real test of their back-to-back championship credentials against a well-drilled Caulry outfit in yesterday's Westmeath SFC quarter-final at TEG Cusack Park.

St Loman's kicked 1-2 without reply in the closing stretch to run out 1-10 to 0-8 winners, the goal coming from substitute Ken Casey, but the final scoreline doesn't do justice to Shane 'Cake' Curran's side who were arguably the better team over the course of the 60 minutes.

Rank outsiders, 2019 intermediate champions Caulry held a narrow 0-6 to 0-5 lead at the half-time interval, mainly thanks to the sharp shooting of Conor McCormack, and could have been further ahead but for a string of wides. However, they just hadn't enough fire power to edge the champions in the second period.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, the sides were level on 0-8 apiece before John Heslin (who was being well marshalled by county captain Kevin Maguire) sent over a couple of placed balls and former Offaly star Casey fired to the net with the last kick of the game.
