The clubs at the centre of the ugly brawl that marred a Wicklow U-15 football final last Saturday are to meet tonight (Wednesday) in an effort to diffuse tensions.

The Wicklow News is reporting that officials from Carnew Emmetts and Kilcoole GAA clubs had arranged the meeting in advance of a minor football final which was due to be played this weekend but has since been postponed by Wicklow GAA.

Tonight’s meeting is, however, expected to go ahead as planned.

It is understood that referee Philip Bracken has submitted his report to Wicklow GAA’s Juvenile CCC which has commenced an investigation into the melee.

Wicklow GAA issued a statement condemning the “totally unacceptable behavour from a number of people” and promising “strong disciplinary action”.
