Tyrone coach Joe McMahon says that skills training was a focal point in the Red Hands’ All-Ireland winning season.

McMahon joined the Tyrone set-up under joint-managers Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher, having played alongside the latter during what was a golden era for the O’Neill County during the 2000s.

This past season saw McMahon in charge of skills training for the squad and, speaking on Off The Ball, to skills and intensity training as being key to Tyrone landing a first Sam Maguire Cup in 13 years.

"I think building up throughout the season, our main focus is obviously the intensity you want to give. That's the foundation of any performance. But your skills are important,” the two-time All-Ireland winner outlined.

"It's alright having a game plan. That's one thing, but to execute it at a high level with those skills is very important. That's something we focused on in particular."

Even with Tyrone having reached the pinnacle this season, McMahon added that there are more ways for the team to improve: “I suppose you can see it working to an extent, but there's still plenty to work on."
