In the aftermath of last night's disappointing 11-point All-Ireland final defeat to Cork, Jeffrey Lynskey announced his decision to resign as Galway U20 hurling manager.

The Liam Mellows clubman was the obvious choice to take the U20's role at the end of the 2018 season after delivering three All-Ireland minor titles to the county in four years.

In his first year in charge, the Tribesmen were beaten by Kilkenny at the Leinster semi-final stage, while in his second tenure they made it to the provincial decider but fell to Dublin after a long wait brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lynskey's side went one step further in 2021 by lifting the Leinster title, avenging last year's final defeat to the Dubs. However, the All-Ireland final against the Rebels would prove a bridge too far.
