Limerick are set to be without attacker Peter Casey for Sunday fortnight’s All-Ireland senior hurling championship final.

The Na Piarsaigh clubman was sent off on a straight red card in the 59th minute of this evening’s semi-final clash against Waterford at Croke Park after he had appeared to headbutt Deise opponent Conor Gleeson.

Wicklow referee John Keenan did not see the incident first-hand and consulted with his umpires and linesmen before issuing Casey the red card which leaves him suspended for the Liam MacCarthy Cup decider against either Kilkenny or Cork in 14 days’ time.

Speaking to RTE Sport after the game, Limerick boss John Kiely said that they intended to review the footage of the incident before deciding on whether or not they will to appeal the referee's decision.

"I haven't seen it, but I'm looking forward to seeing it," said the Treaty County boss. "It just seems completely out of character for Peter. That wouldn't be in his makeup as a player at all.

Asked if Limerick would be sending an appeal in to his imminent ban, he said, "depends on what we see."
