"We just want to put a performance in for Connell"

The late Connell Keane.

Galway manager Jeffrey Lynskey paid an emotional tribute to All-Ireland minor winner Connell Keane, who died suddenly yesterday, before his side's Leinster U21HC final versus Dublin this evening.

Lynskey was the county’s minor manager in 2018 when Keane came on as a substitute against Kilkenny to help the Tribesmen retain the All-Ireland title at Croke Park.

Most of the players involved in this year's U20 squad would have played with the late Beagh clubman on that successful minor team from three years ago.

"Unfortunately, Connell Keane who was with us in 2018, played in the All-Ireland [minor final], passed away yesterday," Lynskey said when speaking to TG4.

"[Connell] played schools' hurling with Gort and his club Beagh.

"He will be sadly missed. Our condolences to his family, his father Sean, mother Maura and brother Daithí."

The Galway boss said they wanted to honour his memory.

"We just want to put a performance in for Connell, his club Beagh and south Galway in particular and make them proud."
