Galway captain Shane Walsh scored a goal and laid another on a plate for Damien Comer to put Padraig Joyce's men 2-5 to 0-6 to the good against Mayo at half-time in the Connacht SFC final.
With 18,000 or more supporters watching on at Croke Park, Walsh was quickest to react when a point attempt came back off the upright before blasting home in the 19th minute. The Kilkerrin-Clonberne clubman then turned provider eight minutes later as he made a blistering 50-yard run to set up Comer who nearly burst the net!
