Cork end 16-year wait with All-Ireland U20HC triumph

Cork defeated Dublin at Nowlan Park this evening to collect the 2020 All-Ireland U20 hurling championship crown, marking a first national hurling title for the county in 16 years.

The delayed decider finished 2-19 to 1-18 in favour of the Rebels with a goal coming in each half for the Rebels from Sean Twomey and Padraig Power.

Twomey’s strike helped the victors to lead by 1-11 to 0-7 at half-time, having made a sizzling start that saw them up by 1-4 to nothing in the early stages.

Dublin brought the difference back to four after making a good restart but the issue was all but put to bed in the 50th minute when Brian Roche sent Power through for the Leesiders’ second major.

It marks a first success in the U21/U20 grade for Cork since defeating Galway in the U21 decider of 1998 and a first national hurling title since the Rebels' 2005 All-Ireland SHC victory.
