Brothers Pearse are London senior hurling champions for the first time since 1998 after defeating St Gabriels today in Ruislip.
McGovern Park staged the 2020 London SHC final and, after months in waiting for the postponed decider to be played, it was Mikey Garvey’s late goal that clinched the title on a 1-17 to 0-18 score-line.
Conor Kennedy’s points helped the victors to lead by 0-13 to 0-8 at the half and they’d kick on to take an eight-point lead, with Kennedy and Kevin Reid (two 65s) to the fore.
Chasing their 18th title, St Gabriels battled back superbly and had the margin back down to two when corner-forward Garvey hammered in the game’s only goal to settle the issue.
Earlier in the day, Sean Traceys defeated Fulham Irish by 2-11 to 1-5 to be crowned 2020 London intermediate hurling champions.
