Seamus 'Cheddar' Plunkett has been rubber-stamped as the new Laois senior hurling manager.

Plunkett was previously in charge of Laois from 2013 to 2016 and replaces Eddie Brennan after the Kilkenny All-Ireland winner decided to step aside last November.

The Portlaoise man had been involved with Kilkenny club James Stephens last year, as the city side came so close to beating All-Ireland champions Ballyhale Shamrocks in the county SHC semi-final.

His appointment was confirmed by the county board tonight, and interestingly, former Laois senior football manager is part of the backroom team as physio.

The full backroom team includes: Donach O'Donnell (coach), Francis Forde (analyst), Leo Tiernan and David Matthews (strength and conditioning), Arthur Dunne (nutrition), John Sugrue and Conor Bolton (physios), JP Campion (doctor).
