Chance to join 'eight All-Irelands club' not a motivation for O'Sullivan

Dublin defender Cian O’Sullivan says joining the list of eight All-Ireland SFC winners is not something on his mind ahead of Saturday’s final against Mayo.

Only five men have managed the feat, all of them from Kerry - Pat Spillane, Páidí Ó Sé, Mikey Sheehy, Denis ‘Ogie’ Moran and Ger Power.

Should the Dubs keep it to script this weekend than O’Sullivan, Stephen Cluxton, James McCarthy, Philly McMahon and Kevin McManamon will be joining that list.

Speaking to GAA.ie, the Kilmacud Crokes clubman says it is not a source of motivation for him going into the final.

“I’m not just saying it because it’s what you should say to media but I honestly don’t (think about it) and even All-Irelands and other accolades that I’ve won in the past, they don’t really register because it’s not what the team is trying to do, we’re so involved in the team right now that your mind doesn’t even go there,” he said.

“I think probably when you finish playing and in 10 or 20 years’ time and you’re looking back over it and watching back old DVDs, and have your medals stored away somewhere, it’ll probably hit home at that stage.

“Right now, no, that’s the honest answer.”
