TV pundit Tomás Ó Sé believes that Sligo should not have given a walkover in the Connacht SFC semi-final and wondered why it is just weaker counties that seem to be affected by Covid-19.

Since the return of intercounty action, Leitrim and Longford gave walkovers in the league, while Offaly hurlers did similar in the Christy Ring Cup, all citing Covid-19 as the reason for their decision.

Sligo’s decision to withdraw from the Connacht SFC due to an outbreak has led to a scathing assessment of the situation from Kerry’s Tomás Ó Sé.

“Very disappointing that Sligo have pulled out of the championship,” wrote Ó Sé on twitter. “I’d love to know the exact situation that has led to this. Is it 11 players or more?

“Longford and Leitrim have had issues. We never found out exact details of the Leitrim situation. Fermanagh who had 18 players missing fulfilled their fixture in Ennis, so it can be done.

“I’m not downplaying the seriousness of this but the integrity of the competition is being questioned now.

“Why is it all weaker counties that seem to be in bother with this, does it suit them?

“I think this is very disappointing. The fixture should have been fulfilled if at all possible.”
