Moycullen GAA have been hit by a Covid-19 outbreak with a number of players testing positive for the virus in the wake of winning their first ever Galway SFC title.

As a result of the outbreak, the Connemara club have implemented the appropriate measures on dealing with Covid-19 and "cancelled all activities." They previously made the decision to postpone plans to celebrate their historic title win over Mountbellew/Moylough at Pearse Stadium earlier this month.

Moycullen have a strong contingent of players involved between both the county senior and U20 football squads who are due to return to action this weekend. But their representatives are not expected to be available as the Tribesmen take on Mayo in the Allianz League on Sunday and Kerry in the All-Ireland U20 semi-final on Saturday.

A statement from Moycullen GAA chairman Paul Clancy reads: "The global Covid-19 pandemic has affected everyone over the last seven months."

"In recent weeks the national numbers have started to rise against an alarming rate and unfortunately there are several cases in our community. This includes some members of our senior football squad who won the county title recently.

"On learning of these cases in the club we immediately acted and have cancelled all activities to allow time for all the necessary actions to take place regarding the contact tracing process. Previous to this, the club had cancelled club celebrations after our county final victory.

"We will be following all protocols set down by the HSE and the GAA as we all try and get through these challenging times together."
