Blackrock 4-26
Glen Rovers 4-18

(After extra time)

Blackrock came through an extra time battle with Glen Rovers this evening to secure their first Cork senior hurling championship in 18 years.

Alan Connolly led the way in the scoring stakes for the winners at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, where they also got three goals off the bench to help cement the victory.

Blackrock had led by 0-12 to 0-7 in this decider before Simon Kennefick handed their opponents the best possible restart with a goal from the second-half throw-in.

Kennefick then drew the game level (2-7 to 0-13) with his second goal in three minutes before Patrick Horgan’s 65 shot Rovers in front.

It was a short-lived lead as sub Tadhg Deasy responded with a superb goal on 39 minutes and from there the Rockies moved four up.

Rovers hit back with scores, including a goal from Mark Dooley, and the sides would be level four times in the closing 10 minutes with Connolly landing a free in the added minutes to cancel one out from Horgan and force extra time.

Connolly and Alan O’Callaghan pointed the first two scores of extra time for Blackrock and they wouldn’t look back once Shane O’Keeffe and Robbie Cotter rifled in goals that put them 10 up.
